iPlanetude was created in 2008 as a way to provide first person accounts of global travel. The name comes from a combination of the English word "planet", the French word "etude" meaning "to study" and all of this is done over the internet. iPlanetude has a twofold design: first, to allow students to share travel and cultural experiences nearly instantaneously; and, second, to provide a forum for users to learn from these peer-to-peer experiences.
The idea was born from a desire to encourage student travel and a teacher's need for interesting, engaging, current and concise video sources about world societies that high school kids wanted to watch. Often, even the best of videos that do capture students' attention are quickly outdated. Ultimately, the real value-added of this site is this bottom line: high school students are intrigued by what others their age are doing in the world. By watching kids their age, students more easily connect with what that experience may be like for themselves.

In the end, this may even encourage them to want to travel, learn about other cultures, and then share with more students in the same way!
